Q: Why do I need Signal Mirrors® on my motorcycle?
A: According to the NHTSA, every 100 seconds in the United States there is a lane-change / merging accident and an injury or death occur about every 10 minutes. Signal® mirrors are positioned at the eye level of adjacent drivers making them more noticeable than conventional taillights. In addition, when a turn signal is activated, a flashing chevron appears in the corresponding side mirror to alert drivers in your “blind spot” of your intentions. This Signal® mirror is also very visible to the rear of the motorcycle.
Q: Is it absolutely necessary to have motorcycle Signal Mirrors® installed by a professional? Can I do it myself?
A: It is not absolutely necessary to have a professional install motorcycle Signal® mirrors, but highly recommended. Mechanically savvy consumers are capable of doing the job themselves. You can look at our installation instructions on the individual product pages to help you decide if you want to do the installation yourself. Q: How detailed are the installation instructions?
A: All of our motorcycle installation instructions cover three basic areas: factory mirror glass or housing removal, motorcycle Signal Mirror® installation, and motorcycle Signal Mirror® wire routing and splicing.
Q: Can I replace the LEDs if they “burn out”?
A: While replacement of the LEDs is not possible, remember we choose to use LEDs because they are extremely durable and long-lasting when compared to regular incandescent bulbs. The lifecycle of our LEDs is rated in several million on/off cycles. In everyday terms, this means the LEDs will provide many years of trouble-free service.
Q: I have Signal Mirrors® and broke one in an accident. Can I just purchase one mirror?
A: Yes! As with our entire Signal Mirror® line, just go where you originally purchased your mirrors, or contact us for the replacement. Typical cost for one mirror will be about ½ of the retail for the whole kit.
Q: Do all of your motorcycle Signal® mirrors have a forward-facing signal?
A: No. The only kits with a forward-facing signal are our cruiser Signal Mirror® kits part numbers 220-0165, 220-0148, 220-0149, 200-0077, and 200-0138. The signal is amber in color and only functions as a turn signal, not a running light. On 220-0224 the forward-facing signal also doubles as a running light.
Q: What are the American (Harley and Indian) and Metric (Honda, Kawasaki, Suzuki, etc.) cruiser Signal Mirrors® made from?
A: These mirrors are machined from 6061-T6 billet aluminum and have a high-quality chrome plating. Read more about our quality cruiser mirrors here. They are described in the article as follows: “Optically, they were excellent, and manufacturing and machining were superb.” No plastic or cast piece here!
Q: Do your cruiser mirrors use flat or convex glass?
A: They both use “flat” glass. Convex glass is available as a special order for the Oval Cruiser mirrors only..
Q: What are the dimensions of the BMW K1200LT, BMW R1100RT/R1150RT or Honda Goldwing GL1800 motorcycle Signal Mirror®?
A: These kits are unique because the mirror glass is replaced with a Signal Mirror® assembly. The size of the glass is just like the original mirror glass. Go here to see what’s included in the BMW kits.
Q: My bike has 4-way flashers (hazards). Will your Signal Mirrors® work with them?
A: Yes. In addition to the normal turn signal function, the Signal® mirrors will also flash when the hazards are activated, provided your motorcycle has 4-way flashers. No additional wiring is necessary for this feature to work.
Q: What is blue glass?
A: On some kits, blue glass may be an available option. Blue glass will provide the additional feature of reduced glare when compared to a standard chrome glass mirror. Plus they look cool!
